Photos location and EXIF GPS are related—but not the same.
LensPin always saves an approved point to the Apple Photos item first. Optional EXIF GPS is a separate, non-destructive edit intended to help the current shared or exported version carry coordinates.

Apple Photos library location
This is the location Apple Photos associates with the asset. It powers the Info map and location-based browsing. LensPin adds this location only after you confirm the selection.
Optional EXIF GPS edit
When enabled, LensPin asks Photos for editable image data, adds GPS to the metadata of a non-destructive current edit, and saves that edit back through Photos. The original photo or RAW remains recoverable.
Exports can vary.
Whether a shared or exported file carries the current edit's GPS can depend on the export path and Photos settings. Verify a sample in the destination workflow before processing a critical archive.
Fallback behavior
If the Photos location succeeds but EXIF editing is unsupported or fails, LensPin keeps the successful library location and reports that EXIF was skipped. It does not misreport the whole item as a failed location save.
Why a photo is skipped
LensPin reads the Photos item immediately before writing. If another app, device, or sync operation added a location after the preview was created, LensPin skips that photo rather than overwriting it.
Completion statuses
Failed
The location write did not complete. Keep the displayed per-item reason for support.
Skipped
The item was intentionally left alone, commonly because it already had a location.
LensPin album
Only photos whose location was actually added are collected in the LensPin album. If album collection fails, the completion screen shows a separate warning; it does not undo or hide a successful location write.
How to verify
- Open the LensPin album after the batch.
- Open a photo and inspect the Info map and coordinates.
- Compare the point with the route and surrounding photos.
- If EXIF portability matters, export one sample through your actual sharing workflow and inspect it in the destination.
