Support · Saving locations

Photos location and EXIF GPS are related—but not the same.

Saving an approved point updates the item’s location in Apple Photos without rewriting the original photo, RAW file, or video. If you need a photo file with GPS embedded, use the separate Export JPG option with Include Location enabled.

The skipped item already had a location when LensPin checked again.

Apple Photos library location

This is the location Apple Photos associates with the asset. It powers the Info map and location-based browsing. LensPin adds this location only after you confirm the selection.

Original files stay unchanged when you save

Saving a library location does not rewrite original-file EXIF GPS, replace the original photo or video, or create an XMP sidecar. Camera, capture-time, and original-GPS fields can be read as evidence without being changed.

Exports can vary.

Whether Apple Photos includes its library location in a shared or exported derivative depends on the export path and Photos settings. Use LensPin’s separate JPG export when you need a photo copy with GPS, then verify that copy in the destination app.

Writeback outcome

Each item is reported as Added, Failed, or Skipped based on the Apple Photos library-location update. JPG export is a separate action; it does not happen automatically when you save a library location.

Why a photo is skipped

LensPin reads the Photos item immediately before writing. If another app, device, or sync operation added a location after the preview was created, LensPin skips that photo rather than overwriting it.

Completion statuses

✓

Added

The Photos-library location was successfully written.

×

Failed

The location write did not complete. Keep the displayed per-item reason for support.

↷

Skipped

The item was intentionally left alone, commonly because it already had a location.

LensPin album

Photos and videos whose locations were successfully added are collected in the LensPin album. If album collection fails, the completion screen shows a separate warning; it does not undo or hide a successful location write.

Export a photo copy with GPS

  1. Open the photo or select photos in the LensPin album.
  2. Choose Export JPG and enable Include Location.
  3. Export the JPG copies, then inspect the location in the destination app or a metadata viewer.

The current Apple Photos library location is used for export. Non-JPG photos, including supported RAW photos, are converted to JPG. Original files stay unchanged. This is not original-format or RAW-preserving GPS export, and video GPS export is not supported.

How to verify

  1. Open the LensPin album after the batch.
  2. Open a photo in Apple Photos and inspect the Info map and coordinates.
  3. Compare the point with the route and surrounding photos.
  4. If embedded file GPS is required elsewhere, export a JPG with Include Location enabled and inspect a sample. Check the destination app’s handling of GPS metadata.
